My poor golfish (outside)

Letting my 11 year old brother feed my goldfish, about half the tank was covered in pellets. Luckily no have a super filter and it is aquaponics so 6 hours after that all the nitrate was gone.. :p (-2 fish)

Then I forgot to put the weights on the cover and it blew off. A grisly death by bird.

Last a builder was looking at my setup during renovations then turned the air pump over and it got water in and burnt out after rains, then my old backup one overheated and my dad didn't oxygenate the water when I went out and yea... (-1 fish) luckily only one before I got back with a new one

I bought a Walmart Chinese algae eater for my 10 gallon tank 6 years ago... Still have him I am up to 75 gal now and he wants to eat my fish.... Gonna have to give him away or maybe just trade him in for another baby- best tank cleaner ever! Wish he would stick to algae tabs and veggies!!!! Also never measure out methylene blue over your sink or anything you don't want permanently splattered blue!!! Haha

First tank I ever bought was a 5 gal trapezoid. I went and bought a pacu, that would have been bad enough, but he didn't survive the night because I didn't know you had to cycle a tank.

Ouch

Young & dumb. My stepdad had a 180g w/ african cichlids. He offered to help me out but I said, "I'm ok, I got it." I learned my lesson, you don't know everything

When my electric blue crayfish berried up for the first time in my then gigantic 29g I figured I would protect the baby crays by splitting the tank with a mesh divider.

Soon as they started wandering from mommy they climbed that thing like a ladder and hung off it snipping at fish all said and done I lost all of the fish in that tank ( about 15) but my crays grew fast from all that protein.

I then traded said baby crays to a LFS for heaters filters and such and started buying bigger tanks on craigslist.

I remember my dad and I decided to give our 2ft tank a good clean. Fish in a bucket and then we boiled everything.

Whoops.

This was my first tank 20 yrs ago. We were actually told about cycling the tank. We set it up and dumped flake food in there for a month. No testing, no understanding why but it worked. Till we boiled the gravel.

The water went white, so we did a water change to clear it. And kept doing it every day till it was gone. That's what probably saved a lot of the fish.

the silliest thing I have ever done as a beginner was after a few years of keeping freshwater I decided I was going to try saltwater. so I bought all the stuff I needed for a 55 gallon saltwater tank and it was beautiful. I thought I wouldn't need anything bigger then that but then one thing led to another and...

I was looking at building a 700 gallon plus tank for sharks and moray eels. I ended up selling every thing saltwater until I'm out of college. it was silly of me to think i could stop at anything less then a thousand gallons because I know I would upgrade more with time.

Let the in-laws look after our tanks for a month... Lost my baby due to overfeeding and no water changes. :/ I will NEVER EVER let someone who's not a 'fish person' look after my fish again!
