Nope, it's a W. leerii. Ompok actually have short face. Besides, the dark mottled pattern & jet black fin membranes existed in Wallagonia sp, not in Ompok sp.

Oh yes, I forgot that Wallago and Wallagonias became very affordable and plentiful too.
No, no Ompok. No doubt it is either a leerii or micropogon (I can't tell the difference) but for our intents and purposes it is all the same.
It will grow well. If you are lucky, it should get to 4'-5' in many years. Arapaimag's got to 5'+. I have one runt that's still at 3' after 3.5 years and three youngsters at 1'-2'.

Do you know if they are farmed for food? I'd think they are, just like wels, too cannibalistic for that but who knows. If they are farmed for food, then what we get in the ornamental fish trade are the refuse, the culls with crappy genes. That'd be a bit sad to me personally.

yeah, they are farm for food. Good eating, some say they taste like lobster. Actually Wallago that are in the trade are all farm version. Juvenile W. leerii are rare in the wild, most captured juvenile sheatfish here are Ompok sp. It's like Lince Catfish, juveniles are rareThe difference between leerii & micropogon located in the eyes. Not that obvious. I use fishbase description to distinguished em. It takes me a long time to see it. Always hit & miss.

I see. That's what I remembered, that it is quite hard. I gave up trying a while ago and seem to have forgotten this eye thing entirely.
Quick peek before pond transfer. He grow so fast, 12" now. Just a month & a half with me. But surely he won't grow fast like this after the transfer, the pond have colder water. But spacious.
