Silurus Merdionalis thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I plan on giving him a bigger tank, probably 125 or larger. Just a simple tank, sponge filter and hob.

Here I have found an interesting article. The first of its type. A man in 2015 caught a ~4ft 39 lb (18 kg, 1.3m) Silurus Merdionalis in the Yangtze. It’s quite interesting since he says it’s the biggest fish he’s ever caught. It’s terrible since the Yangtze at one point or another had some of the largest fish ever like the Chinese paddle fish. Here’s the article. Includes a picture of a fish that does not match the mottled color I’ve seen in others. I’d assume this fish is well over 20 years old.

Good news today is I can keep the wels. I have a buddy who will be paid to come clean and change water on a schedule. I have a 150 for him waiting to be plumbed.

I lost track of this thread; good to see it again. The wels looks great, and it's nice to hear that you will be able to continue forward with it.

Turns out that any species of wels is....like so many other assorted fish species....verboten here in Manitoba. I'll just have to vicariously enjoy yours. :)
