Silver Aro full of eggs? with vid!

Very cool you caught it on vid

I would have loved to have seen mine do it.

i would suggest youve done everything right to get the female to lay eggs but that you probably have no adult males in the tank or the males are not running ripe with milt.
next time you want to try the same technique to get the female up and ready but have an old enough male that IS milting. ie going to be interested in fertilising the eggs.
you should be able to catch your fish out and identify if there are any males WITH milt by knocking them out with either benzocaine, aqui-s or clove oil. my wierd wording was me trying to say that there was probably no male in the batch with milt. meaning you should find all females or no milt in any males.

i can give you safe dose rates of those fish knock out drugs for arows if you dont know them already. i can also give you the supply contact in Canada ( i think thats where you are located and no G shock i do not know who i am talking to and was not trying to suggest that i know about silvers more so than him.. but i think that i do know why no male came up and fertilised the eggs which is the idea, i am guessing). i was offering help because it is a bit of a shame to see that happen without a male doing the deed. and not so that i can sound like i am some king silver arow breeder. if you understand the principles surrounding inducing fish to spawn you can just about breed anything.
but i understand he might be your man and youve got your nose out of joint by my suggestion and because i dont even keep silvers. maybe someone else will be interested though..
anyways, once you knock out the other fish ( under the same regime/conditions that provided for ovulation for your female) you give the possible males? a squeeze down the abdomen to force some fish sperm out of the vent area. if they are not sperming/milting it would be my guess there are no adult males in the tank ( they should have been sperming if there was unless there is something off skew about them) so then get a good male and stick it in the tank and do what you did all over again and you should then have a proper spawning and fertilisation event.
there are also ways of making a male spermiate if indeed you are quiet sure that you already had a male there. what i am suggesting is that under the conditions you gave your female any adult male should have had milt and should have been interested in jizzing over the eggs. i was also interested to know if you had noticed and change in the outside weather during the time leading up to her spawning to confirm one of my beliefs or if in your case it was more so just the water changes. this was because of something i had experienced and taken note of prior. good luck. i wish you the best and success.

i see you have no other silvers. i saw a post asking for more pics to show the other silvers so assumed you had others/.

how do i check if they are males

That's really cool. If that hope you can get fertile eggs if female becomes pregnant again.

ahh yes i see silvers there in the pic. thanks. i had thought i read someone elses reply earlier in the thread that stated something along the lines of you having no other silvers. sorry. {edit} it was this post that threw me.. "the other ones in the vids are Asian Greens"..but i never went and read all the thread again at that time so assumed you had no other silvers in that tank. now i realise you had pulled the greens out and left the silvers.

i had went back and saw your pics (and your statements mentioning the other silvers) after my post and noticed my mistakes.

both may be females or an immature male, if it were a mature male and he had milt id be well surprised for him to not act on her egg laying. by all rights a mature male should milt up under the circumstances that produced her to spit eggs. the thing is that a female can and will respond to water and light without the presence of a male to get her breeding hormones flowing. ever notice how some people say that arows need the courtship to get them to breed? well its BS and you have just proved that and your not the first person to prove it.

especially so if conditions are perfect for that to happen.
the reason why its rare is not because spitting eggs without a male is a freak thing, its because it is rare for someone to give the fish the perfect conditions. in fact you could get her to spit eggs in a number of months again. it will happen like clockwork under the right scenarios.
if you pulled her out and stuck her in your source water all by herself she still would likley have spat them if light and temps were still correct.
i have done this before with fish in the plan to put with a male the following day and the female will spit eggs that very night.
next year, if you do the same things she should roe up again. when that happens you can knock out the other fish and check for a milting male. if not you could quickly go find one somewhere. your good at sighting the female going through toward ovulation so this will buy you some time next year.
