silver aro in 90 gal

18" in a 55g is torture. As I said, if you got one @ 6" you'd have 6 months before it would need an upgrade at the most. There are many awesome fish that can go in your 90g, keep looking around unless you know you can get a huge tank soon.

For a general rule of thumb, a tank should be at least 1.5-2x deeper than a fish is long and 3-4x longer than a fish is long. This will keep them comfortable and happy.

So your 90g could house a single 12" fish at the maximum in my opinion. That opens many options.
 
Silver Aro's have a LOT of energy and constantly swim. They pace the tank back and forth all day long. In a 55, it would probably go crazy from having to practically sit in place it's entire adult existence. It would possibly even kill itself eventually from constantly trying to jump and hitting the lid which would have to be weighed down with a stack of bricks or something. My former Silver cracked the big center lid on my 265g tank at only 16".
 
please follow everybody's advice and dont put in aro in a 90g for more than a few months. for some reason people just love to keep aros and oscars in tiny tanks :screwy:

Thats what most people kept them in, when they can get the fish for $25 @ 6-7" and no one can do anything about it (no fish abuse law)
