Are the farms maybe starting to do "White Tank Treatments" with silvers? That would explain the "High shine" and low grade plat morphs.

Even in white treatment once place back to darker tank it will become normal/

Here was my former black aro on a white tank treatment. When I placed it to darker tank it went back to normal.

Went back to the darker tank.

Aro's colors typically immediately alter to their true color when placed in a darker tank. I do not think it is possible to pass off a regular as a high shine within a dark environment. If a silver is not a high shine/platinum, you will likely know within minutes of it being placed in a darker environment.

Cool. How long before it returned to a dark colour?

Took almost 3 weeks. Depends on how fast it settles in the new dark tank.

I did it with my green arowana and it looks awesome. Looks like a true platinum asian aro. Except the barbels and eyes blow the cover.

That why I've seen some for sale in asia labeled as plat black aro but still have a color on the fins, eyes and barbels then I know for sure that it's a scam. So don't get fool.

Wow 3 weeks:WHOA: I did the same thing with a jar and once placed in a darker environment, it couldn't have taken more than an hour tops to change back. Guess it just depends.

Well I place mine in a bare bottom tank that why it took a lot longer. As I said it depends on how fast it settles in the new tank. Also large fish takes faster time to change back. Juvies takes a longer time. This black aro was only 5".

With all of the platinum variations and "grades" out there, I think I know why an albino silver would cost more money now.

It seems like a breeder can get his hands on a wild oddball aro and pull a new name out of his ass and charge a few thousand for it. Its almost comical what these morphs are going for considering nothing can be proved 100% , and there are no ramifications for selling "fake" morphs.

Great pictures by the way guys. I wasn't aware that white treatments were still popular. That black is amazing!

Well, the rarer the fish, the more expensive. Albinos are much rarer than high shines, or platinums (as far as I know). With any morph, you are paying for the rarity. For example, when albino ball pythons first came out quite a few years back, they were an absorbent amount of money,,. well into the thousands of dollars. Now that everyone's breeding them, you can get them for a few hundred or less.

I agree....but a true platinum is going to be a lot harder to find than an albino. I can see why albinos would be expensive with all the different grades of platinum being passed off as true platinum.

I remember when Ralph first started going for a platinum ball...what they called a snow. There couldnt be a single dark scale...or it was considered pie bald. The ball python morphs had a lot of smart educated breeders working together to come up with new stuff...dont think we can say the same for the arowana. Cash is king and if they can find people to pay these outrageous prices for a fish they claim to be something else then I guess they cant be stopped.Aquabidd is a good example of this....
