Silver Aro?

Sorry Brian it was more my fault I quickly read what you said. I could do longer 8-10' is a possibility. Also Kaya if I don't think I can't get the pond for it soon I won't get it. I've had to keep a fish in a tank to small before as I couldn't get anything bigger like planned and don't plan to do it again(no longer have the fish found a better home for it). If I can't get him I will just go ahead like planned and then get another one after the pond is almost set up. I kinda want a younger aro(i know not to get them to small) so I can raise it myself and know exactly how it was fed and wasn't kept in poor conditions, so that might be what I do.

i'm sure you can get them like at 4" to 6".. thats a lot more fun.. to raise them from that stage to when they are adults.. yeah but you can avoid the smallish 2" or 3" aros.. they are pretty fragile then..all the best..

Yeah I know not to get them that small. Also Kaya don't worry I am not taking his advice, I won't keep an aro in a to small tank. When I do get my aro, it will probably be around dec or jan, I will post pics. How long will it be able to live in a 100 gl if I get it 4-6", I want to know so I know how far into the pond cycle I can get it(plan on letting it sit for a month then move the lima in there and wait a week or two then put the silver in there).

is it the same tank you had mentioned earlier.. 4'X3'X2'??? its more like 170G when its 90% full right? i didnt quiet get your last question about the pond..

No that was a stock tank, I am talking about a reg fish tank. I want to get the aro before the tank is fully cycled so I can work with it and make sure it gets onto pellets and shrimp and not be on feeders before he goes into the pond. I didn't want to jump into getting it to soon before the pond was fully cycled which I plan on letting it go for a month before adding my lima shovel nose into it. I am not sure how long exactly a 4-6" aro will be able to live happly in a 18" wide tank(i want him moved before is 18" of course, so will he be able to live at max a month in a half in a 18" wide tank or will I have less time? I want to use the stock tank to grow out my maganuese. Also I looked through your aro pond thread fully and after doing so and seeing the size of your aro's I think i will try and do 9-12' long of a pond with probably 4-5' of a width.

:) wait i got lost..
a. you have a lima shovelnose.. how big is it? and what tank size..
b. the managuensis.. you have one now(?) and want to raise it in the 4X3X2 that you initially mentioned aka the stock tank..
c. the aro.. you will have to get a new tank?.. like 18" max width and cycle and then buy the aro.. a 4" to 6" aro will do quiet well in that tank..the length of the tank will it be like 3' to 4'? like brian said.. for an aro to be super comfy.. three times its length should be your tank width.. so calculate based on that.. for a month at that small size i dont see a problem..
d. the width in the pond you mention should be minus the walls or glass.. inside to inside measurment.. not outer wall to outer wall.. jus reminding cos sometimes we oversee that.. if 5' is the best you can do.. then do that.. dont reduce it but yes the length seems good.. 10'+ would be ideal..

The lima is 6 or 7", the Mag I have but he is only 1.5", the aro will go into a tank I have now but when I get it I want to be still cycling the pond so I can make sure the aro is eatting and getting on healthier things other then live feeders. I planned on doing the measuting outside the pond, and yeah the tanks 4' long. Also how does this stock sound for the pond which will be 9'12'x4-5'x4'
1. Silver aro, 1. lima shovel nose, 1. maganuese, 1. motoro stingray, 1-3 bichirs(not sure which type yet), 1. oscar, 1. clown knife. The bichirs and oscar are optional, but if the tanks not over stocked at all I will go ahead with them, and if they all will be compatable.

Grow them out mate.. Aros are much more comfy when they are past 12" to be mixed with other fish.. Jags are aggressive.. One of my Jags just killed a salvini and a GT.. so brace yourself for that.. the mix will / might work as long as the Aro is the largest and is not bothered by the others.. The stock level seems fine.. though i'm a lil concerned about the size for the ray and the feeding.. compatibility is more of a hit and miss.. esp when you are mixing fish from different regions.. i like SA fish.. so i stick to them..

The only rays my fish store gets in the disks are 4"-8" so not starting off with a adult, the mag might just stay in the stock tank if he seams to agressive towards anyone, thought right now he just pushes anything his size out of the way if they get to close and ignores everyone else who is bigger, so hopefully it stays that way.. The only other fish the aro will be with in the pond for a while will be the lima which doesn't bother any other fish he is with. The main fish I really want is the clown knife, and the aro. I have always wanted a ray but that can wait if you are worried about it. So the stock will be, 1.aro 1. clown knife 1. lima 1. oscar 1. Mag(if he behaves himself) 1-3 bichirs (maybe).
