I traded in my Jardini for a Silver Arow on the weekend at my LFS. I paid AUD$380 for the silver after trade in (originally $450).

My concern is that it is in its 3rd day and has not eaten anything. I have tried frozen bloodworms, flakes, Hikari Clichards Gold, Hikari Arow food sticks & crikets. The silver just swims pass the food and is not interested.

I asked the LFS what he fed him, and he said he fed it Hikari Arow sticks but should eat any pellets.

I have read some threads and some say the silver should eat within a 2-3 days, some say within a week and some even say a month. Its is the third day and I am very concerned.

The water, PH and temp is fine. I have even put fake plants and driftwood to provide hiding places. How long should I wait until I should get really concerned? Should I leave the lights off or on? What else can I do? Never had eating issues with arowanas in the past.

Details.

Silver is currently about 12 cms in a 3 foot standard tank (will upgrade once it grows) with a 15 cms common pleco and 10 cms pictus catfish.

Thank you

How are your other water paramaters i.e amonia, nitrites, nitrates etc?
Have you tried feeding with your tank lights off?

Water parametres are fine. I tried feeding with lights off. I actually leave the pellets floating in the water until it sinks and the pelco will end up eating it.

Should I just constantly leave the lights off until he is no longer stressed out?

try keeping the lights off until he adusts and when you do switch them on do it gradually by switching your room light on first then waiting a few minutes then your tank light.

What sort of foods have you been trying?? Just pellets?

I hope he eats something soon - his stomach is so skinny

all that you've read previously were good advices.. i'll just add one more.. patience.. just be patient on your aro on a hunger strike.. it's just new and surely it will eat after it has adjusted to its new environment..

Try krill. My silvers and jardinis loved krill!

I agree...just be patient. I experienced the same thing with a new aro a while back and its very frustrating and there's a tendency to panic. He eventually started eating...a week or so later. Aros are funny...My 27incher is currently on a hunger strike. I've learned that he'll eat when he's ready.

I agree with jay17 and kolossus just have paitence and stop stressing, your gonna do your head in worrying. At the end of the day, a fish will not starve it self to death if food is present unless its sick, if its acting normal swimming around and all your water params are fine then you have not nothing to worry about, just wait it out.
