Wow I'm surprised your aro hasn't became lunch to your big cats. Becareful I've had a 30" RTC eat my 22" Silver Aro before.

I know m8, i watch them for hours a day just observing behaviour and this aro is very clever indeed. He knows exactly how to piss them off and get away with it, he is allways the 1st to the food and allways eats alot. Ive also found that if you keep the cats full and dont let them starve they simply dont bother any1 else around them. I think it was the fact that the aro had the prawns sticking out of his mouth and they could still smell food, hence the chase :)

You seriously can't see the obvious :duh: I don't care how long you have "observed behavior" that size combo is blatantly stupid.

Soon the RTC will just cut out the middleman, very sad indeed:(

Let the slating begin.................

He has been in there for months now m8 and they have never ever bothered him at all, like i said it was purely because he had the food and they didnt. How is that sad???

It happens in the wild all the time without any casualties, yeah maybe sometimes the larger fish get what they want but not in my tank.

Excelent, i'll have to try and get a similar vid of mine doing that (but just my Pacu chase it, not my big cats so i won't get the slating you are;)) The aro had to take 4 bits of fish from me before he got to eat 1 last night, puts on a great display jumping across the pond to avoid it being stolen.

Do i see a certain white channel cat and smaller RTC in there mate?:D;)

To the negative nancy's out there, i've also found that keeping other fish with big cats is about a lot of observation and trial and error. Yes i have seen the cats chase other fish but that's only when it's feeding time and they've just stolen a lump of food from in front of the cat now. Other fish have gone missing in the past but over time i've got used to watching their behaviour and feeding at the right times means i've not lost any bite sized fish since last August.

A lot of this hobby is experimenting like this and passing the information on, sometimes nature strikes and we do lose expensive fish to the inside of a RTC or TSN but it looks doubtful in this instance; the RTC is chasing the aro because it is carrying food not because it wants to eat it. If it wanted to eat the Aro it would have done so as soon as it felt peckish, not wait until feeding time, and no matter how fast an aro is never underestimate how quick a big pim is too.

:iagree: and wow, very nice reply dude ;) Im quite suprised by your comments as i think the same way  maybe we are twins of sorts and seperated at birth    It is the general trial and error that helps us learn and therefore our knowledge of fish keeping grows much stronger and wiser by the "observed behaviour" routine.

On another note, yes that is an albino channell, urs might i add and no that is the baby RTC, urs is in the 5fter alone (again) just as he seems to prefer it. I did try him back in the big tank but he panicked and started showing signs of frustration and worry so i had to remove him again, now he lets me pet and stroke him like a dog and comes swimming to the front of the tank when i walk past (tank being setup on the garage floor btw).

So it's tame on it's own and panics with anything else? weird. Lots more trial and error experiments there then.

As an addition to my last post: Always remember, big cats aren't predictable, even when we think we've got a good understanding of them losses can happen. Not getting too worked up about losing a fish as food is the key and use it as a learning experience and accept that it might happen again. If somebody has 3 large RTC and other large cats in a tank then i think he's going to be already aware of their requirements and atitudes towards tank mates as food!

The last fish i lost was when all my fish were still in a tank and my big RTCxTSN ate my GT. A slight change to the feeding programme when all the fish were moved into a paddling pool when i moved house after that happened has ment that none of the Cichlids or other fish of the same size that are still all together have been eaten since. Although i am still going to move all the smaller fish out for a bit more safety when the tank's set back up (experiment over.) I currently have 1 smaller channel cat swimming around that i call 'Mr Chew' as he looks like he has been swallowed and thrown back up again but without seeing it happen it can't be confirmed, and did lose a silver shark earlier this year but it was dead in the pond rather than dead in another fish.
