Maybe you guys should go rub each others bellys over in the catfish forum. Instead of posting here in the forum were most care about the type fish that is gonna end up as a feeder.

Trial and error :duh: what about common sense?

maybe u should ask urself. why is he fatten aro up, least if rtc eats aro he will not have to feed rtc for while.

dinner is served yeah:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

1st off we love to rub bellys, 2nd this is an "arowana video" not a catfish vid so if any1 has derailed onto catfish topic, its not my fault people like my fish. 3rd If i didnt care about my fish they would not be alive at all plus i wouldnt be watching them for hrs an end each day whilst rubbing my belly :D

It is trial and error as ive lost 4 aro's in this tank and decided to get a bigger 1 that has more survival instincts and obviously proves my point as he still alive :headbang2 and will be in the next few months even years :nilly:

Common sence comes with the size of tank i have and the dedication to looking after them, i am from the uk so it comes with the territory ;)

I have seen alot worse videos out there who do need slated, as far as im concerned this is not 1 of them videos as my silver is still alive and fighting strong :screwy:

Ok heres a new vid of the morning after feeding, just for the sinics out there :). This proves that the chasing does not go on all the time, it only oddly and very rarely occurs, i was just so lucky to catch it all on video ;)..................

[YT]<object width="660" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PJ_jyBjlJGY&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PJ_jyBjlJGY&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="660" height="405"></embed></object>[/YT]

Now you can clearly see that the large cats have no intention of eating the arowana.

I know this isn't really the place for an argument about tank mates for our fish but i would like to say i enjoy aro's as much if not more than my catfish as my current one is much more interactive with me than the cats are. I'm on my 3rd aro (a silver) the first 2 being another silver and a Jardini both of which were also housed with catfish but did not meet their end by being eaten (a missed nitrite spike (very bad expensive day:() and the carpet respectively.) I would have more aros but the price difference over here even for a silver is quite high.

I care about my aro as much as you do yours and only introduced aro's to my big cats after researching the possibilities first. Yes there's a risk, but this hobby is not an exact science. Most of my fish have not read what the books say on them and their behaviour is different to what the majority would expect from just reading books about them. So i have tried, not always succesfully, different combinations of fish and if asked I will share what i have found to work or advise on threads started on relavent subjects.

Obviously it'd be retarded and stupid of me to try, say a GATF or Piranha with my aro:screwy: but there is a Dovii with my aro and i have witnessed on more than 1 occasion the aro let the Dovii know he's not to be messed with (the general rule of thumb seems to be aros and cichlids won't mix, although i can say even with the Jardini i did not have a problem.) This combination is a weird one and there was always a chance it wouldn't work, with plenty of research first for the right fish then a bit of trial with very little error this time it's proved succesful.

It is always a sad day when i've lost a fish through food or fighting but if people didn't try these things out the hobby would not have advanced to where it is today, and (disclaimer!) i would not recommend just diving in with the above combination:nilly:

Yes an Aro will fit inside a big catfish. There's also lots of instances of them being kept well together if you take a look out there.

I know this is rtc info but take a look at the suggested companions section.................
http://fish.mongabay.com/species/Phractocephalus_hemioliopterus.html
clearly states AROWANA.

Thanks very much ;)

Nice site as it has misspelled what you believe it clearly states.:screwy: I'm sure they are assuming anyone who follows their "suggested companions" advice will exercise a little common sense regarding sizes of the respective fish.

A few points in your link that you obviously missed;

A large, nocturnal predator that will eat any tank mates that it can swallow. Only combine with large, robust fish. During the day the Red tail catfish remains motionless, but when evening comes, it searches the tank for prey.

The Red tail catfish will try to consume anything it can accommodate into its mouth

The Red tail catfish is difficult to care for, requiring a huge tank and a diet of live fish. This catfish is difficult to combine with other fish because of its predatory nature.

Generally when you provide a link, the idea is for it to support your side of the argument. Not provide fuel for your adversaries :naughty:

some people don't realize that fish that might in other circumstances eat one another can sometimes shoal together and be happy i had a small molly herding fish towards my freshwater lionfish
