Silver Arowanas in a 10,000 liters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
after my leaks problem (solved), it seems the fish have finally recover from this stress... and have a "normal" behavior again.

I had an accident with water change routine and an organic pollution with NH3 and NO2, resulting in the death of several big fish I had from years, including :

my biggest Moon, Osteoglossum, female, 9 years old, almost 8 kilograms, 103 cm (+3 feet), but also a 2 years old stingray and another Arowana female (2.5 years old, 48 cm) and a REtroculus xinguensis.

The next day, I have found two more disasters, with the death of 2 of my oldest fish : Panaque schaeferi, 10 years old, 2 feet TL :

a very saddening story... with pain and ego wound, cause it's all my deepest fault.

But I kept on going... and corrected the root cause... and then, after 3 more weeks of intense caring for this tank, I'm back with pretty good conditions and fish hungry again.

Oh this is the worst I've seen! You must be floored by this.

Was this just from lack of water changes?

That’s awful. So sorry for the tragic loss.

no, just a bad error from me during water changes and internal filter quarterly clean up... Like usual, every 3-4 months, I clean the anaerobic bottom layer of the filters. Taking out black mud and NH3 from this ****.

But unlike usual, I was too concerned and worried by changing work (on April 1st) and with mean subjects from my boss, and I refilled with cold water DIRECTLY IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FILTER, in the anaerobic zone, not only releasing NH3, NO2 and mud in the whole tank, but causing also a lethal drop of oxygen.

Of course, as Murphy is always around, I made the water change on Thursday morning, and left for job till Friday night, when I discovered (at first smell) the disaster.

thug life... and newbie ****... after 20 years of fishhobbying, I'm still producing **** sometimes...

Oh man, I’m gutted reading this. So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing, hopefully we can all learn from this. Just tell the boss to F off lol. (Don’t actually).
