I heard somewhere that some silver arowanas can push the 5 foot mark, is this true??

id love to grow one to 5ft in a 2000 gallon tank in the future.

id keep it by itself though. keeps up water quality longer and better.

i think tt wld be in very rare cases in the wild.

Like the odd human individual tt gets to 7ft +...

You are right Del....They can reach upto 5' in length! The zoo here has 4 that are around that length...Very big, very nice! But in the home aquarium, they can be tank busters at around 3-4'.....If you had a big enough tank though, you could probably grow it out to that 5' mark!

 I luv silvers

Silver Arowana's are definatly the largest of ther kind with out a doubt.

But i'd have to agree with IOSTRISCIARE 5 FT would be very very rare !

We have a tropical world over here and they have a Silver Aro just under 4ft and thats the biggest i've ever herad of one growing I'M NOT SAYING THEY DON'T HIT 5FT i'm just saying it must be very rare !

5ft thats total crap 4ft if you are luck

I just got a little guy at about 5-6 inches. He was fifty bucks, but the guy gave me a bunch of free stuff (a bunch of feeders and frozen foods) when I bought him, so I guess it was an OK deal. I couldn't imagine him at five feet, I hope he doesn't get much bigger than 2 feet. How thick does the glass have to be for a three or four footer? I guess they can shatter aquariums?

STNDFSH! :grinno:

They really can't break the aquarium glass....but you do need a nice sized tank...OH, and a really tight lid!!! My 3' black just jumped to his death....and I had something on the lids...He just wanted to get out I guess! So good luck with your little guy!
