Silver/Black Aro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have had major problems with 2 4" silvers i have gotten (not at once of course). yet the black i have now i got at 10" and he is in perfect condition. so i would say 10" if you want a tough one.

Ok...so when I finally go aro buying, I'll know what to look for. Thanks. :)

I actually have been in the market of buying young beat up Aro's. I got a silver at my lfs at about 3 inches thin as heck and torn fins, missing scales and being bullied by a puffer that ended up in his tank. He is now 11+ inches and doing great. Only problem is drivers side drop eye and I am trying to solve that with feeding crickets. The smaller, the better for me, I know I am taking a chance on death but I dont like to see small aro's being passed up and left for dead.

i think any size aro can be picked up. its all up to the fishkeeper on wether it lives or not. give it clean water, nothing that can pick on him, and plenty of food and he'll do great.

I just love aros...particularly black and silver. Would you recommend housing one of each in a large tank? (By large I mean a min. of 300 gal.)

In my opinion, as long as you are concious of water quality and make sure that the aro's get a balanced diet they really aren't thaaaat difficult to keep. I have used fd plankton and bw's as a staple, kept some salt in the water, and they seem to do fine.

most baby silvers under 3 inches are doomed because of the stressful conditons they go through during shipping.

all depends on the health of the fish

feeders are the best food to start out with (after quarintine and conditioning)

nothing beats feeding whole animals.
