Silver datnoid in brackish water Q

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
silver tigers are a BW fish and should be kept in BW

even thought the shop is doing guess work with the salt at least they are giving it the right type of water condition as they are with the scats

scats silver tigers and monos are a BW fish and should be given the right type of water condition which is not FW

silvers live in waters ranging from fresh to brackish and maybe beyond so my reaserch reveals ,there are many debates on the internet and i am no expert but if everyone is allowed to publish there methods with out fear then we can all learn from each other , i would say start them at low end brackish while young and increase with age ,

There is no set salt composition defined for brackish water. It simply means that it is an area where fresh and saltwater mix. Think about most of these places and you can imagine the ammount of salt continuously changing. Factors that affect salinty are rainfall and, of course, the constant change in tides. So brackish water fish are among the least affected by changes in salinity. Dont worry about your AT. As far as most other fish, most benefit from at least 1 tsp per gallon.

well if some people say that AT live in both FW and BW water

then surly you should keep them in FW some of the time then change the to BW water at different times of the year and keeping a AT in FW long term cant be good for them

I think i might get it this weekend in the mean time i'll raise the salinity of the tank its going into and once i get it i'll drip it and hope all goes we'll

this is the thing that gets me after all i have said about them being a BW fish people still continue to put them in FW long term

would you put a discus in a BW no because thats not the water they need

all tigers can live for many years 15-20

has anyone kept a silver tiger in FW for that long

their is no way of telling the side effects of being kept in FW long term

people shouldnt buy AT just because thats all they can find and they want some kind of tiger bad

just keeping the debate going , not trying to start an argument lol,

but i have yet to see a 20 year old dat that has been raised in a home brackish aquarium ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

or any evidence that a brackish dat will die from fresh water ,,

untill someone proffessor whoever with degrees in fish biology etc say exactly how much salt to add , then it is still guess work for many ,,

the point most people try to make is that AT are found in both FW and BW that would mean at some point in their lives they migrate to BW

just like monos are fond in full salt water

at what age would you move the AT over to BW to long in FW may do it harm

its only AT that i believe are BW and the info on NGT is wrong they are a FW fish

up until a few years back IT were also listed as being a BW fish

you only need to look at a AT it even looks like a BW fish compared to other tigers

i have kept a NGT in FW for close to 8 years thats what makes me believe that they are not a BW fish and the info is wrong until about 3 years ago NGT were the rarest of all tigers thats why their not that much info on them
then their became a shortage of ST and more NGT were brought into the market to fill the gap

a lot of people i know have found that their AT get sick more often and lose colour as they grow older normal signs of bad water or water a fish is not comfortable in

sorry for derailing but i couldnt help to ask. ive been wanting to do brackish water for my datnoid but i also have bichirs and plecos in my tank. i was wondering if they would be ok with the brackish water.
