Silver Datnoid - polota

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I bought 2, 3 inch silver dats Sunday for $30.00 for the two of them. They were in fresh water when I bought them and was told they came from fresh water where they were caught. They are currently eating shrimp meat and small night crawlers also known as red worms at the bait shop.

The are pretty eager and willing to taste any thing that sinks to the bottom. I even saw them attack an algae tab while it was sinking to the bottom.

I am going to try to get them on sinking carnivore pellets this weekend. The neat thing about these fish they seem very curious and aware of and about everything that’s going on in and out to the tank. I will try to get some decent pics of them this weekend to share.

2 for 30? is murrietta norcal or socal, cuz that is damn cheap and i could use some more

i had mine in fresh for a year and a half then sudden death. I've also had them some in brackish water which lived over 2 years. they are much happier in brackish, eat more and more active.

I bought them in long beach, they were listed for $20.00 each and I asked the guy $30.00 for two and he agreed. I also saw some at Toms that were going for similar price.

Murrieta is socal between San Diego and LA

i doubt the "sudden death" was due to the fact that they were in fresh water.

then how do you explain why STs, indo, NTT, all living and living happily right now with minimal fighting in the same tank?

for example some fish that are converted into completly fresh such as the bumblebee grouper fish. They're life span is SIGNIFICANTLY shortened when they're living in fresh water compared to salt water where they naturally live.
