I've always loved silvers. Short of the plant-eating thing, they really are just about the perfect dither. Silvers were some of the very first fish I ever bought when I started fish-keeping. I still have 5 of the 6 I originally got back when I had only a 30 gal tank. They're almost 15 years old now. I lost one male about a year ago, but the rest are still going strong...even spawn regularly.
They are tough little fish. I have a couple of silvers that belonged to my sister. She once had the pipes burst in her house in Feb when they lived in Maine. By the time they got home, ice had started to form on the top of the tank. She lost every fish in the tank, except for the silver dollars.
