Silver dollars with silver aro's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just my experience.. i grew out 14 dollars..from tiny ones to about 5" to 6".. moved them into my pond.. 7 got whacked by Aros and RTC.. The aros and RTC are all over 24".. and recently another 3.. so i've moved them out.. maybe you won't see a problem now but eventually in the longer run.. all the best.

now over for the tank??Just a reminder.. silvers are jumpers!

What are the growth rates on those Silver dollars? The one's I'm going to purchase are only probably 1.5"ish or so. but I will have them for atleast a month, if not two before I purchase a Silver Aro. Don't expect much growth within 2 months, but maybe get em to 2" by then?

Also, Nithin, not sure if your comment was towards me forsure or not but I've got covers on my tank. It's 95% covered with plexi glass panels I cut out to fit the sections. I've just got to covers the small sections next to my two aquaclear 110's and I'll be good to go for the Silver Aro.

No worries man :)

I made the final decision, going to get 8 silver dollars within' the next week or so, and have them going in my tank for the next month or two until I get A silver arowana.

Mine grew fast until the 3" mark then slowed down. IME about 1/2" a month. I bought mine at the same time, aro around 5" and the SDs quarter size. Now they're 27" and 4"-5" respectively.

Agree with noel ^ .. there are different types of dollars.. the red hook or the commonly available ones dont go beyond a size.. it took them a long time to get to 6".. but i've always like the black barred silver dollars.. i think they get a little bigger.. have seen some videos.. it again comes to keep the aros stomach full.. :) it should be fine.. just give it a go..

Well I've got a set-back. I've currently got native wild-caught fish in my tank, and I've been housing them in room temperature water ever since I purchased this aquarium, and now that I'm switching over to tropical I decided to dig out my large heater that came with the tank to start heating up the water, little to find out the heater has some sort of 'crack' in it. It's one of those submersable ones completely covered with plastic, instead of your normal glass heaters.

I wanted to start purchasing some silver dollars and introduce them into my tank this past weekend, but now that I don't have a working heater I'm going to have to go out and purchase one, or I may get two depending on what size I get.

Now normally I'm sure most of you would just go purchase a heater and then purchase the silver dollars.. well, being a 17 year old High school student I don't exactly have excess cash. So a heater is just an extra thing I'm going to have to save up for that I could be spending on getting the silver dollars. I hoping I will have enough money to purchase a heater and start purchasing some silver dollars by next weekend, but who knows. Ahh well, just another set-back!
