Well my adventures with Piranhas have stepped up a notch, I started off with 3 RBP's (they were boring to me) & then I added a Pacu (that was a huge add on), but it seemed the tank was still missing something....so I decided to start over and decided to purchase a 3 inch Silver Elongatus (thanks to Alex at http://www.aeaquatics.com/ for all of your help) does anybody have any photos, care tips, etc on this breed? I'm trying to gather some research but I haven't found any as of yet.

Thanks in advance...

this is really brief and short but i don't think piranha care really differs once you recognize which ones can be kept together and which ones need to be kept solo.

Since you already having the basic with red bellies down, elongs usually max out at 9 inches and love currents. all my lfs that usually don't have any type of piranhas have suddenly been carrying elongs for the last 6 months. i love the streamlined bodies

Yeah, after further searching I found some info & videos on them...these things are CRAZY!!! LOL I'm glad I found 1, this was the kind of piranha I've wanted since I was younger, so I'm very excited about getting it tomorrow. As far as the currents, I guess that means I should order that Powerhead I was thinking of purchasing, huh? I have 2 filters (Marineland 350 & a AquaClear 110) should I do a complete water change since I still have the aquarium running from the last fish I had?? I just did a water change on Tuesday

yeah, do get the powerhead. everything i've ever read said their torpedo shaped body suggest they like fast currents.

personally, i wouldln't do a full water change unless you had a parasite problem. i'd be worried about shocking the system and starting a mini cycle. i'd just do a large one though..

i love the red eyes of the elong. Did alex have a pic of the one you're getting?

Nah he didn't, but as soon as I set the tank up I'll be sure to snap a few pics. Yeah their body form is very nice, from what I've seen they are more active (which is wanted I wanted to begin with) compared to the RBP's. Only thing is they don't grow to big, but hell an 8" inch aggressive 1 will suit me just fine 1 day, LOL and thanks for that link

when did you sell off your fish? if its been a while the bacterias might die off already since there's now food source being produced for them.

I did the water change Tuesday, fed them today & sold them this evening.....I also just purchased a maxi jet powerhead pump (295 gallons)

hopefully there will have enough ammonia/nitrite to keep the bacterias alive.
personally I like hydor koralia power heads, they create very wide and gentle current unlike many other powerheads that create a jet of rush water.

If you were bored with RBP's you might have just taken a step backward even further. My Elongatus basically has the same personality as my other Serras, only active when hungry and when the light is off. I've read they are ambush predators and sure seem to act that way however mine has/is growing an enormous tail fin. The large tail and more streamlined body suggests to me openwater hunter. Don't get me wrong he's got MAJOR attitude issues, bite the store employee when I bought'm and gets kinda creepy when cleaning the tank. Definately a glass charger but really not that often, mostly when I eag him on. I got'm really small like 3" about 6 mo. ago, now pushing 6" and keeps him/her self entertained fanning a fry pit. Easyist way he's annoyed - turn on the lights. Diets the same as the other 4 species of P's I own with one twist he doesn't like market shrimp just varieties of fish. His confidence has increased with size however it is/has been quite the wait, took my Rhom a year to come out from behind driftwood and the Elongatus has been no different.

Yeah I'm getting him between a 3-4" inch size, he's a black mask. Yeah those RBP's were boring as hell  I think it was just the fact that I had a piranha at the time that kept me happy, but after I saw someone post the website that I got them from on this forum my was :WHOA: how often did you feed the one that you have now? Do you feed him pellets as well?

thanks for your help....
