Silver Elongatus Info

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Throw a couple pellets in the tank everyday to help keep your cycle going.

Dont get your hopes up with the elong either, it usually takes some time for serras to settle in, and he may or may not end up being a glass banger

Wait atleast 3-4 days before feeding and dont worry if it doesnt eat.
Probably will never take pellets so go with white fish

when are you suppose to be getting him?

Thanks for your help....

jerzy, I just got him, about an hour or so ago.

Here's a few photos of him (I'm waiting on my Maxi Jet 1200 Powerhead to come in the mail today, the plants around him are Anacharis, I have java moss in the tank as well.)

Yeah I'm getting him between a 3-4" inch size, he's a black mask. how often did you feed the one that you have now? Do you feed him pellets as well?

Conrats on the Silver Elongatus! - Black Masks have a Black Mask.

Mine eats daily and no he's never seen pellets. When I bought him he was eating live foods, now he eats - Talapia, Silverslides, Sand Eels, and any other white fish meat I come across. It took a week or so for him to start eating from the bottom of the tank. I'm not a fan of pellets. IMO, If Piranha were intended to eat cereal they'd have a mouth full of molars.

Thanks, I tossed a few pellets in there to keep the cycle going & he's eating them so, maybe he's just hungry...I'm not going to feed him until Monday. I'm anxious to see how the powerhead pump I'm getting today will help him deal with the tank.

nice lil guy. nothin wrong with pellets. i recommend a variety. pellets have too many nutrition that our aquarium pets aren't able to get through the meats we feed them. why are you waiting to feed him if he's already willing to eat though?

Thanks, someone said to wait a few days before feeding him, he's just nibbling on the pellets he's not really paying them any attention

if he's nibbling on the pellets then keep it going. it'll probably just start eating it once it figured out it's the only food it'll be getting.

some serra won't eat for a few days, some will eat as soon as they are in the new tank so really depends. just tossing in some pellets everyday.
