ok so if i buy another box of salt, how would i use it? do i put the salt in a clear container with holes on the top and put it in my tank? or let it all dissolve first? this is my first time adding salt.
Dissolve it in a bucket (or other large container) filled with water, then just pour it in the tank.

It will probably take about 2-3 minutes to dissolve.

It's going to take WAY longer than 2-3 minutes to disolve 1 1/2 pounds of salt even in a 5 gallon bucket. If you decide to just leave it to disolve, it might take you over 20 minutes. If you decide to add a powerhead or stir the water with something, you might be able to get it done in 10 minutes plus or minus a couple minutes.

Why would you need 1 1/2 lbs of aquarium salt for a 60g tank? The last time I was having health issues in my 220g, I probably used about half that, and the problem was fixed within a week. Just use the amount they say to use on the box.

1 heaping tablespoon per 5 gallons of aquarium water.

BTW you should quarantining new fish when you get them.

Becuase the amount given on the box does nothing at all? 1 1/2 pounds of salt isnt even enough to provide a tonic for a 220 gallon tank, let alone half of that.

To OP, just to save you some money in the future, forget about API salt, just go out and buy either morton's kosher salt at your local supermarket or get a bag water softner salt from your hardware store. It saves you a TON of money in the long run. Just make sure you buy the one that says no additives.

If that's true then why did it work for me when I had a severe ich infestation? If "the amount given on the box does nothing at all" then I'm pretty sure that both my sailfin pleco and my tire track eel would be dead right now.
