The name for "true" green terror is in no way meant to diminish the other species, the gold, silver and red saums are all beautiful fishes. This isnt a competition. We use the name true because the fish we refer to when using the name are the original species given the common name Green Terror. I see how referring to them as "True" may seem like it is dimishing the other species, but thats not the intent. The behaviors and variable nature of alot of this species charictaristics is extremely intriging, to meself and many others, hence the efforts to bring them back to the hobby.

I would like to add that the Saums (or so I have read) originally were thought to all be the same fish and it was only recently that it was determined that they were not.

The confusion on this topic seems to be never ending and this is partially why I started the thread in the first place.

The main thing right now that I am not clear on is sexing them definitively.

I can tell them apart no problem. Just can't sex them yet.

So far I am looking at the length of the fins (dorsal and anal). I believe my saum is a female because the fins do not reach the caudal.

Oh I agree and am very happy to have them back ... I don't think it's dimishing, just tired of all the arguements over which of the 4 species should be called the "true" one is all. Some people say riv, some silversaum. I tend to agree with the ones that kept them back then when first imported and are still around (the keepers, not the fish). I'm more than happy to just call them all green terror's as common names and say saum or riv for the species name, much as I do blue acaras.
