don't they sell these at wal mart? never see them at my lfs, how big do they get?

I hope they do not sell them at walmart.. but who knows? They can get to almost 2 feet.. they need brackish/salt water as they mature. :)

yup walmart sells them in freshwater.....i had 3 when i just started and had no clue what they were, just saw shark and i was like alright!

they all died and never got any again cause i figured out what they were.

they can occasionally be slowly brought over to freshwater, but it is really hard and therefore rarely done successfully.

yes and going from freshwater to brackish water should be done slowly too.. I am sorry to hear yours died.. LFS should be honest about these poor fish and fish that grow enormous.. someday there will hopefully be some laws to protect the fish and the consumer.:nilly:

So what tank mates do you guys have with these guys? I don't know a whole lot about brackish fish... Are those some sort of African Cichlids? Do are they easy to keep with other fish?

You can keep compatible brackish fish with these guys.. no they have nothing to do with cichlids.. they are very easy to keep with other fish as long as the other fish are good with them..these guys are very good natured. I am going to be adding other fish to the tank as well but i need to go through alot of info myself to decide what others are best.. ;)

I'm pushing my luck right now as I have 2 small oscars and 2 even smaller female convicts in with mine. They will be going soon though and the sharks will have the tank to themselves. My specific gravity is only at 1.008 right now and I want to raise it up to 1.015-1.018.

well that sounds okay for now.. i had my oscars with my sharks until i had to go brackish they were fine together..they are up all the stuff on the bottom the oscars left behind..
