you could go with a managuense, and keep one in a 125 gallon
you can keep ONE in a 55g easily i mean they dont get larger than an oscar i dont think..... do they??

you could do a 125g Bass tank

The 'best' predator with a low cost to coolness factor would likely be a Peacock bass in my opinion. You can buy them tiny and young for as low as $15, and as high as say $80. They get 20" and upwards depending on species. Would require a large tank of 220+ gallons. And even more interesting is the possibility of breeding, where you would buy in between a half and a dozen youngsters and grow them out and pick out the large male and female, and sell off the others.

These guys have huge mouths, and smack their food with incredible force. Check some Feeding videos online.

Managuense get close to 16" and a 55 only is 12" wide, more like 11" on the inside, so probably not a great idea. Are you looking for a predator that's scary-looking and shreds things up, or just something that eats other fish?

you can grow one out in a 55 gallon and have it there for some time, but haedly the ideal lifelong tank for it considering possible adult size

yeah i agree with this... i think a Bass tank would be pretty BA. man ive seen them eat before and its crazy sick! lol :headbang2:nilly:

Figure out what you MAX tank size is first and then think about fish, it'll be easier in the long run. My personal favorite for a single fish tank is a Fahaka puffer. I've seen people recommend keeping them in as small as a 100 gallon tank but in my opinion a 180 (72x24x24) is the smallest you should go with them.

yeah my bossman had a fahaka named martha (martha fahaka lol get it?)
anyway it was way sweet!! pufferz iz coolz lolz
