I'd go with a striped midas male. They are very impressive fish when grown and you don't see a lot of the barred midas at adult size. Nothing beats a big male midas for personality.

i saw one for sale as a "firemouth"!

except it was a red barred midas. i am still debatin on gettin him because i have a 55. but then again he is only 1 inch. Wut do u guys think?:nilly:

They are cool fish but to really enjoy one I would say upgrade to at least a 75 by the time he is 8 inches and grow a monster.

I am going with a Trimac for a 90 Gal single species tank!!!

Any of those mentioned are good. It depends on what type of look of a fish you want. If you want a long time pet, then get a jaguar. I think those are cool and they are smarter of them all. They can get pretty big though. about two feet if they have room and long time tlc.
I think those are so nice..

how is a tank that measures 30" x 12" x 18" not suitable for a 5"fish that is going to be kept by itself? That is plenty large for a 5" IMO. Anyways sorry for derailing :)

The roomier the better. Imagine how big the wild is compared to any tanks in this world.

Trying to decide on a single specimen for my now empty 90 gallon any suggestions? I like fish that are aggressive looking for a real glassbanger.

A white Midas or a flowerhorn. Personalities vary. Just try to find one that's aggressive. Before I used to not want my cichlids to grown a bump on the head, but now it's the opposite. The head grows big forward and compliments the face. They are cool amusing fish.

When i was young (About 13 at the time) I had a tank of Mixed african cichlids except something that was marketed as a "South American Pike cichlid" Now... Everything in the tank was mean, there were two "King of the tank" fish, the Pike, and a very large african cichlid (unsure of actual name at this point, was years ago) Basically the pike sat hidden in a corner and the african was the "king" of the tank, until the pike wanted to come out and put things in their place... Never had a death in the tank, it managed to work out very well...

Then one day I decided i was going to separate the tank with a glass wall and put something meaner in there... Ok, i was told by my uncle never to get a butterkofferi because they were just too mean. SO i got one just to see, it was a tiny 3" one. Well, about 10 minutes after putting it in the tank (I honestly wanted to see if it would try anything) It began beating the crap out of everything in there, including the african twice its size, and a 10" Pike... So i put him back in the bag so i could slip in the divider. OK lesson learned.

About two months later when it grew about an inch or two it managed to leap from one side to the other during the night... I found him on the main side of the tank, everything dead except the pike.

I think he was afraid of the pike he never actually tried to bite that guy, just the gill flaring and such.

Anyways.... I wont get another, unless its alone. But the more time i spend here, the more Red Devils sound awesome.
