size of a marble motoro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
From what i have seen/heard a male would be 11"-12" a female would be around 18"
But maybe some of the marble owners will have more acurate info

A lot will tend on the bloodline i.e. where they came from in the wild and the two parents.

I have seen Aquamans big Female and whilst the disc size is about the size mentioned in the post above this is a really BIG looking fish, the nose to tail could easily touch both sides of a 2ft wide tank and it is a deep fish too.

My Marbled Pup from her has put on over 2 inches in around a month and is eating very aggressively, the first week of that month she was very shy and still settling in so I think the growth rate will stay the same for a while!

It appears that fully grown marble males are significantly smaller than their regular motoro counterparts.

I notice the post has been changed to add "in captivity" but the bloodline is still important, if the parents were big and wild caught this will have an impact compared to small and captive bred.

I think you need to plan for a 15 to 18inch disc as max in a female but likely smaller for a male.

I often worry about the size posts as I think that SOME (not all) ask based on the fact that they plan to add them to a small tank.

I would still see min tank size as 250 gal plus for a pair (ideally bigger)

i don't think the size of the parents matters that much as both my parents are 6ft + but I'm only 5.6

just because the parents are small doesn't mean the off spring will be

I'd say males slow signifivantly after 12 but may still get up to 18. Females seem to slow about 16 and still get up to 24.

My biggest male is 16, female 19. Both are roughly 6-7 years old.

I'd also venture to guess the more Motoro like the Marble is the bigger it will get, the nicer they are the smaller they seem to max out at and slower they seem to grow.

when i bought my marble female about a year ago she was over 18" disc . im not sure how big she is now but when she gets on front of the tank ( 2' high ) there isnt much room left at all . the male i have doesnt seem to be growing too much and hes 14" from the front of his disc to the back of his disc and i have another marble female about the same size but im expecting her to get a fair bit bigger.

Is the Motoro the smallest of the freshwater rays?

The Motoro is one of the larger rays, it is the marbled motoros that seem to be a little smaller.

T1Karmann, I cannot believe you said that parents do not determine the size of the offspring....I think you were winding me up but if not drop down to the library and look up something called Genetics, then biology and then evolution. That should be a good start.:D

Ray offspring kept in a small tank with low food are likely to stay smaller than ones in a large tank with lots of food. Pollutants such as Nitrate or general poor quality water will also hold a fish back IMO
