Frank Castle Frank Castle do you feed your guys clams still on the half shell and let them rip the meat off themselves???

They do look great. I'm glad It's working out. If you start having problems you can't account for with them add some salt gradually with your water changes. I've never heard of them doing well long term in freshwater. I've heard 6 months to a year before they start becoming more susceptible to issues they get sluggish and stop eating. At this point I think people end up shocking them with too much salt and killing them. Same thing when you bring them home chances are they were straight fw at the store. In the wild they swim from one level of salinity to the other and it's a gradual thing.
Thanks bro, i'm not the expert but I know a bit of Moray so I will look to you for help and appreciate the info. This thing will stuff nearly half a Tilapia fillet in 1 sitting, 2x a week and he's barely 16" if that. Do you think the fact that I always keep 1 TBSP of tablesalt per 5 gallons in all my tanks 24/7, 365 has something to do w/ it or does it not matter unless it's TRUE ocean salt?

He's super-cool lol he just retreats to his flowerpots when his belly Is full while I toss him strip after strip of Tilapia fillet. I'm AMAZED how much they et at once......they bare SOOOOO much resemblance to snakes it's scary

yes, but they much prefer Tilapia and Silversides to them.......been a few months since I offered raw shrimp, but I am to understand fresh fish fillet is healthier than shellfish or do you think I had the right idea with variety of foods? I DID also get him eating dried baby shrimp ( LFS brand) after soaking them in water for a few hours [courtesy of Fat Homer Fat Homer (?) or did someone else suggest that(?) ], but he is NOT a big fan of regular FROZEN krill for some reason

On another note, I am finding certain fish that are raised on dried shrimp in a growout will not necessarily want it after being moved to a larger tank w/different species. Very peculiar. You ever had this happen? A fish that just stop eating one of it's treats or staples after a move w/ new species?

My guys keep changing their tastes on me... so im now in the process of considering making my own food for then using gelatin...

They were eating FD krill, carnivore pellets, frozen shrimp etc, but lately seem to be a bit bored and looking for change again...

-edit-

Sometimes i think having too many places to hide makes them more shy and less likely to come uo to the surface for food...

I think more hiding places make them MORE likely to parade as a showpieces IME, but I guess we have different fish also too, so it is what it is.

Sidenote, my Native N. American Sunfish tank (totally FW, Lepomis species), is BONKERS for frozen krill .....as well as shrimp, clams, earthworms and other frozen but wont touch Hikari Cichlid- floating or sinking, Algae wafers, Koi pellets, Flake, Bearded Dragon Pellets, or anything manufactured. Period. Ironically I am having opposite effects on my tropical largest aggressive cichlids

Dont mind the fact the tank is a mess atm... but as you can see, there is almost too many hiding places, they all tend to hide 95% of the time...

Infact, im thinking of removing all the PVC pipes to reduce actual hising spots in hopes they come out more...

how long have they been like this in this set-up w/ hiding spots??

Since the word go basically...

There is 1 guy that comes out for random swims, but the other 3 tend to swim between the plants etc, so much less chance to see the whole fish...
