skittish ATF

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Take out the flashy fast fish as that seems to make ATF more skittish. They do better in low lighting and calm tank mates.

Oh that sucks. I was hoping he was little, they're easier to train.

As he gets used to you he may calm down, but it won't be quick or easy. He's already set in his ways and is convinced that you're a threat. I hope he turns around for you. Keeping the tank darker, keeping the lights in the room OFF but the lights in the tank on (but dimly) and putting things like towels on the left and right sides of the tank should help to calm him down.

I have a NEW gatf also. 4" and have had it almost a week. Very skittish. Still eats ok . Just gotta wait them out. Need some liquid nerve pill to let him swim with. That's the worst part of owning one. Got my first in 1993 . They haven't gotten calmer yet. SUCKS.

Have you had a chance to read my thoughts on taming/training ATF yet? I haven't yet had a chance to try it with a GATF and I'd like to see if it works for them, too.

Update: I fished out all the redhooks while I was doing a water chance. hes extra skittish now because i was trying to catch his tankmates, but hopefully he'll calm down now without all the other fish.
