skittish ATF

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a NEW gatf also. 4" and have had it almost a week. Very skittish. Still eats ok . Just gotta wait them out. Need some liquid nerve pill to let him swim with. That's the worst part of owning one. Got my first in 1993 . They haven't gotten calmer yet. SUCKS.

The only thing that really concerns me is that it's more than being skittish. Any sign of movement he'll run himself into the corner and bash himself into it. It's not like he's darting across the tank to get away. He just goes berserk.

What are your water perimeters? ATF do NOT tolerate any form of impurities in their water. Mine generally start getting a bit more spazzy when no3 approaches 15-20 ppm and get downright psychotic by 40ppm. If I get lazy and slack on my water changes, the fish will spaz badly. By doing a wc to lower no3 to acceptable levels, the fish generally calm right down.

I checked my nitrates and they were at around 40ppm, then I did two 50% water changes over the last day and intend on doing another day. The nitrates are down to 10ppm and he's def a lot less skittish. He's not banging into the glass as much and just darts across the tank now. You were right. Thanks!

I checked on him this morning and found one of his tank mates dead :( I guess he's acting like his normal self. Do you think these wounds look like they're from gatf or armatus or goonch? (Ino I'm going to have to take the armatus out asap) The tinfoil had multiple lacerations at the belly and another had some too. Sorry about the blurry pics, I was in a rush this morning.ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1392303786.962428.jpg

i don't know about the goonch but Armatus either swallows whole or nothing. That looks more like GATF wounds to me.

Definitely water quality has a lot to do with spazzing. When I had my 7" VATF in a 30g by himself he would spaz more toward the end of the week before water changes and calm down right after I change. I would basically do a 90% change each week.

To me it looks like armatus but its hard to tell. It looks like there's a long scrape and a puncture wound which makes me think armatus
