I'm getting a new tank soon and want a bare bottom but I don't just want glass.
I'm thinking of getting something along the lines of slate tiles or some sort of patio stone to line the bottom of the tank.
Anyone have any input as far as ideas or warnings???
THANX!:)

You must seal between the cracks to keep water out completely, this is because poo and debris will get under the tiles/bricks/whatever no matter what you think.

That is all the advice I have for you, I think it will look great, but make sure to seal between the tiles.

With silicone?

Yes, silicone. Or you can use a 2 part epoxy in the syringe (you can get it for a buck at dollorama). The silicone would allow for removal later down the road but the epoxy would be stronger and dry clearer.

Cool.
I'll have to go with clear silicone cause that's what I have on hand.
As far as clean up, what kind of solvents if any are safe?
Or should I just be careful and do a neat job?

I would use black silicone or even gray silicone if you are going to use slate. It will look MUCH nicer than clear!

Great Idea!
Thanx.
I just want it to blend as much as possible for more of a continuos look as opposed to a grid.

I want to see pictures when you are done :)

Why not just paint the outside bottom glass a tan or buff color? Just a thought
