Slipknot too extreme? Opinions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bet you any money, if slipknot dropped the masks, this subject would go untouched. No one would give a ****. It's people looking for mischief that keep bringing up this subject (no specifically saying it's you bog, you made this for opinions. People make youtube videos etc saying why slipknot suck so much...)

I'm a little bias cause i'm from iowa and have seen slipknot since their inception. I'd do a little more research on them before i knocked them. Crahans been dressing like a clown since way before slipknot. And I know this has nothing to do with how they sound but joey was recorded as the fastest drummer ever. As for talent, when someone like stuart copeland of the police say hes the most amazing drummer he has ever seen i tend to think that means something. And last but not least if you don't like them, turn it off. Oh and by the way they have had a radio hit from everyone of their albums since roadrunner signed them.

I'd be willing to bet that a good part of them getting on a record label had to do with their on stage performance.

Most heavy metal bands are given record deals based around scouts watching their live performance, rather than demo tapes mailed in...

Getting a record deal these days, especially in a genre as obscure as metal, requires knowing the right people, and I'm sure having a gimmick that will get all those hormone charged teens in an uproar like lighting yourself on fire and beating the piss out of eachother helped out quite a bit, too.

Then again I never said Slipknot suck, I just said I don't like their music - you're just defending them because you're a fan ;)

Yeah true, lol. But like most fans, they listen to it for the music and sound. But they also like slipknot because the incredibly insane concerts.

Joey's not the fastest drummer recorded - I can't remember the guys name, but there's one faster than him, by quite a bit.

I'm not really arguing that Slipknot are a bad band, because they aren't. I dont' like the band personally, and I'm arguing that a good portion of what got them a record deal in the first place had to do with their stage performance.

It's no big deal, KISS made a franchise off it too, as well as Gwar, The Misfits and tons of other bands to come...

Everyone who's making platinum albums these days has a gimmick, was my main point. It hasn't always been that way.

EDIT: The drummer from Brain Drill can gravity blast Slipknot's drummer out of the water, and even he's not the fastest...same for the drummer from Hate Eternal - and he's still not the fastest. I wish I could remember who it is that really is rated as the fastest, most technical drummer in the world - but it's elluding my mind.

Brain Drill:

Derek Roddy - Hate Eternal:

You need to watch both of those all the way through before making a judgement - and neither are anything special outside of speed, my point is more that speed - while impressive - isn't everything in drumming by a long shot.

P.S Hannah Montana is huge, does that make her and her music great?
Hannah Montana is only successful because she is materialisticly attractive and has a gig on a big tv network.

Slipknot owns her.

I dont like them, been a slayer fan all my life but the anti god lyrics get on my nervs now.Grew up on them, metallica, misfits, suicidal, black flag, rollins, anthrax, ozzy, nofx, bad religion, alice cooper, sepultura, exodus, iron maiden, sod, exploited, dri, megadeath, tsol, bad brains,ok thats good for now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I realy just dont like gwars sound that much but i wouldnt ever call them shock. Its a freakin show.Real shock is when its somebody more like manson that is on a pedastal live getting the entire crowd to shout some satanic crap and they fall for it.Idk the stuff i listed above is just real guys to me.The theatrical stuff is an entire dif catigory. You cant compare them together fairly.I guess shock to me is more mansons old vids with the mouth devices and stuff.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Oh and, rush, tool, iggy pop,the stooges, the cramps, alright, done for now, lol.
