Slipknot too extreme? Opinions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
David R, I posted a few back that I was basing it of my perceived musical talent. That is what I as basing my argument.

All I know is that comparing Slipknot to Slayer is NOT even close to a fair comparison. I bet Slayers first album hit shelves in retail stores before some of the members of Slipknot even hit preschool.

Give em another 20 years and then we can compare band members....LOL

Slayer did not even begin to appeal to me till South of Heaven. IMO Best album by far was God Hates Us All. Hands down.

Slayer was around before Slipknot members were even born - prior to Hell Awaits they were doing shows as early as 1976...I think Hell Awaits released in '81...I know the Show No Mercy tour was in '82.

I agree with the shock factor. Their music is really not that intense/extreme at all, just imagery. Listen to something like 'bury your dead', sort of similar sounding yet at the same time its so much different and its not shameful to tell people you listen to them.

Marketing is about more than shirts, thank you for proving my point by the way. Marketing is about discerning the consumers wants and focusing your product (in this case a band) to gear towards these trends. The "stab" wasn't even focused at you, take a moment of zen.

I didn't prove your point whatsoever. I understand marketing, trust me. You can't possibly tell me a marketing department got together and said, "Hmm....we need to make these guys this way, or that way, and we need to push them here, and not there. Because our surveys and in-home testing proves it!". BS. These guys make the music they do, and people like it (some, not all). That's why they're famous, because some people like them. The some that don't can't make excuses for why they are where they are. All bands have their own (and very different) appeals. I'm not pissing with a Slipknot wang (that was a good post btw :D), and I don't have the patience for Zen. :)
