Slow Endli growth normal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
March update:

Endlis have been moved into my 150g and have maybe grown an inch since I received them. My 1st cb endli died, but that guy was plagued by poor genes. These 2 from wetspot are definitely better in appearance, but I'm quite disappointed in their lack of growth. Makes me think I'll never have a normal endli...

I went through something similar with my 1st 2 congicus. 1st came in knocking on heavens door, recovered then jumped from the tank. 2nd came in DOA. I thought i was cursed.

How long have you had the 2 from WS

I think since about July or August of last year. Sucks. Seems like they'll never grow and make it to the big tank.

150 gallons is a whole lot of territory and hides(decor?) for 2 small wetspot endlis. Sometimes it’s the environment. I’ve personally seen the puny sizes that wetspot Endlis get many times over. When they’re this small. It’s best to give them a head start in a smaller tank for a few months, and provide less or NO hides. Then Pump them up with love, pellets, & fz tilapia.

So the following questions:

  • Tank photo? I wanna see the Hides!!!
  • * how big are these 2 polys?
  • Tank-mates (ALL) that may intimidate and eat all the food?
  • Feeding Schedule?
  • Any left over foods the next day?
  • polypterus activity level on the ground, or they freakin hiding ;-)? Do they swim around?
Provide these and the fine people here will gladly assist and chime in.

What are you feeding?
Carnivore, tilapia, shrimp, silversides

The 2 endlis were in a 20g long for 5 months alone before being moved. All of my tanks are fed 1x/day with a mix of what I answered to Hao.

Tank mates are:
Pink tail chalceus
3 ropes
1 BGK (moving to big tank in a bit)
1 black spot eel (moving to big tank in a bit)
Baby (1.5") oscar
Baby (3") snook
Eleventy billion Malaysian trumpet snails

Here's a Pic for reference

Sorry forgot a couple questions -

The endlis are no less active than my other polys, and are still about 4". One has a kink in its spine, but no other negative signs. Both also eat quite quickly after food hits the floor so I don't think they're starving. But as I mentioned earlier in this thread, these two have always seemed to only eat for survival instead of pigging out like my other polys?

Sounds like they might have very poor genes. The kink in the spine seems to point to that, along with the slow growth.

I have and endli that I got around 2.5-3” less than a year ago and he is pushing 11-12” now.

When I got him on Nov 18th, 2017:

13645481364549136455013645511364552

For size comparison, that is a piece of 2” PVC.
