IMO purigen is for removing tannins and meds

Ive always used it for removing nitrates and at times tannins I would think activated carbon would be better for meds

Sure but then you gotta dump it out. I didn't notice a reduction in nitrates while I used it so I ended up phasing it out.

Surprised i like the product been using it for awhile. Though their advertised recahrge intervals are way off

J jaws7777 , based on your experience would throwing, say, a couple of the Seschem media bags filled with purigen in a sump be effective to reduce nitrates for about a 300 gallons?

Dont mean to hijack, but since we're on the topic of Purigen?

Lol never a hijack man.

Imo no its not effective. Ive had them in the sump on the 150 gal only so they dont dry out. Only the outside layers get enough contact the inner beads stay white. Im hanging them in two of the filter socks on the new sump to see if that has better results but i dont think it will. Probably not enough direct flow through it. I should have recharged it before hand to see. But should be able to get an idea as it was only slightly btown when i forst put them in

Jaws, pretty sure we've chatted about it before, but IMO, the best small sized budget canister is the Sunsun 302. Less than $50 shipped. Very basic, simple and effective filtration for the money. I've got a few of them. One has been in service 4yrs.

I just realized I was mixing de*nitrate with Purigen...

I have to read up on this stuff. Could the de-nitrate be used in a canister/internal filter like the purigen is or does it need constant movement like tumbling with water flowing through our it

Yuo we have nust forgot about it and after i startrd the thread i realized an internal filter would be better off. Sunsun has quite a few that are cheap, so may be perfect.
