small survey of MFK'ers frame of mind

I'm really split equally between the scientific and aesthetics of keeping an aquarium. I love observing my fish and researching them, but I am drawn to fish that I find particularly eye catching, and enjoy arranging the aquarium to have decorative appeal. Sure, I COULD use split terra cotta pots, but I enjoy using rocks and driftwood to create caves and a more naturalistic environment, and planting live plants as opposed to plastic. I actually meant to start a hobby of keeping small planted tanks, but as I planned it seemed more and more tedious and keeping more interesting fish had a lot more appeal.

My BS is in Zoology, my Masters is in Marine Biology and my PhD is in Ecological and Evolutionary Zoology.

I study fish for a living. I publish papers as often as I can.

There is no doubt that I am Math Science strong, but I wouldn't be able to write a grant proposal or publish my research if I couldn't read and write. While I have no love or interest in English, I use the skills I learned in school every day of my life.

im not very good at math and enlgish isn't the best
im very good at vocab and writing just not the spelling and everything else in english

English and history were good, math scores were low but that was more because I didnt do anything rather than being bad at it. I just never liked math much because the answer is written in stone, now matter how you approach it it will always be the same.
Arts/Sciences were more my strongsuit just because I could play with it, rather than the learn to do it exactly like everyone else did.

my vocab is fairly good I can always ace those tests cause I just stare at my paper once and done

this is very interesting lets keep this going

I am pretty much an A student I can write good scientific papers just dont ask me to write an essay about Orwell 1984 it will end up being a "Summery" I have more qoutes memorized than my teacher but my essay is still bad :irked: god dam I try and try what ever I am about to neglect my English class and just erase it from my mind

Ah, well my English scores were very high, my biological sciences were very high, but anything math related like physics...well, lets just say I'm amazed that I can use a tape measure without screwing up.
Same here. Both English and Science were above average. Math was just average.

hmmm suck at math cuse I make stupid mistakes.... suck worse at physics.... I am not sure how I passed that one. Did really well with gen chem.... stink at organic chem. I am really good with biological/environmental scienes..... not so great with the history.... I am really good with english/humanities and bs'ing papers (although you would never know it with how I type on here haha). English/humanities and Bio/Enviro Science is probably my best subjects....

As for fish keeping.... I keep them for both reasons... fun to observe and study behaviors and such..... also fun to have, get new fish breed, etc.

interesting im good at biological chem cause I can memorize all the formulas fast i above average on everything. these results really surprised me.

time to modify this one more time

now lets see how many scientfic name/ random facts about fish you can name off.

you dont have to write them out just write "yes" at the end of your message if you can name off genus species preffered habitats currents pH diet or things along those lines.

I consider myself a YES

I excelled at language arts and math and phys ed. Played every sport (except v-ball) and partied like a rock star as well. Too much partying though to be honest. Also note english is my second language. I grew up french. ;)

My first degree was in computer sciences and my most recent was in Human Resource Management. Go figure. ;)

None of that has anything to do with why I keep fish. I keep fish because of their beauty and my fascination with the miracles of nature. I've also kept reptiles.
