  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
haha i know right lol but sadly there isnt anything i can do... they do well with keeping the grass cut ill give them that but they literally spray chemicals like every 2 weeks or every month at least its pretty ridiculous, i cant even let my dog out back to go potty on the days they spray, have to walk him over to the other side of the complex just to go pee

ok so i posted a wanted ad for either turtle or tortoise that stays small, and i thought i would post here as well as my turtle thread to see who i could get responses from, so here it is, a guy contacted me saying he has a baby sulcata and that it will stay under 14in for 10yrs. is this true? what exactly is their growth rate like, because if it stays that small for that long then keeping one would be possible as i would almost certainly have a place with a yard by then, its just i don't know whether i can trust the info of a random guy off craigslist when a member on here posted thread about their sulcatas just recently (cant remember the member name:duh:) but saying they were 10 and 15 and 90 and 50lbs:WHOA: under good conditions is this how fast they would grow or is this faster than normal, as i def couldn't have a 50lb tort walking around my home in at least the next 6yrs, now to the turtle question. lady contacted me about having young red eared slider a bit smaller than her palm (woman's hand so keep that in mind) not sure if i could get it from her as she is an hour away and only way i would get it is if she came into town or something, but how fast do they grow as well, and at that size would it still be possible to grow him out in my 20g Long for a few months and would a red eared slider nip at fish that were as large as it, or would it pretty much leave any fish it couldn't eat outright alone?

Sulcatas grow VERY fast, and cernatly wont stay under 13 inch by 10 years! As for a aquatic turt, a res is ok if you can arrange a much bigger tank later on and yes it will at least try to see what "fish are made of" but if the tank is big I dont think he will able to catch one. If you took in a larger sexed res you could choose a male witch stay smaller then females and dont have to lay eggs. For a smaller tank musk and many mud turtles are good choices, as are male painteds and male map turtles.

yeah i wrote this in the other thread too but apparently the guy has had the poor thing for 3 years and it has only grown an inch so def hasnt been getting the nutrition it needs, but yeah he said he had some med. size RES, yellow bellys and river cooters so i asked him to send me some pics, you think the RES would need bigger than a 5'x18" tank if it were male?

You could fit a musk in there but for a res, even a male is kind of small, something like 3 feet long at least is better.

?? tank is 5 feet long, but guy said the turts are already like 8in and he has lost ebjd and O to them (no wonder, they are pansy fish and were probably smaller when he added the turt...)

:duh: Ok now was me, I though for some stupid reason 5 inch wide and 18 inch long:grinno::screwy: now a five foot tank its OK good and confy for one adult male res;)

LOL ok yeah i was kind of confused there lol but would still be too small for a female? (would prefer male for the simple fact that i wouldn't have to worry about eggs but not sure what will be available in my area)

Yeah, sulcatas can get pretty much full size in 15 years.

yeah thats what i thought, its weird cus the guy seems pretty experienced and has like breeding pairs of turtles and big cichlids n stuff, but then i havent seen his set-ups so i dont know how well they are housed, but yeah so he suggested the northern fire red painted as a cool turt to have and i may even be able to get one that is only little bigger than hatchling size, anyone have this turt and have adult pics, i could only find pics of the juvies but they look really cool and from what i read they can be pretty outgoing like RES but stay a little smaller
