finished up the filtration and got the tank filled n circulating. adding all chemicals and water heaters today. this bad boy really cleared up quick cuz i barely rinsed the gravel i got from home depot n the water was completly brown when i first filled it. heres a few pics of the filtration system and the tank full of water... enjoy

power outtage would suck butt... that intake pipe would cause an overflow no? - its like drawing water from the middle of the tank.. :(

you sir, are as wrong as it gets. its still an overflow hole drilled in the back, i juse used an elbow and some straight pipe to aim the pipe down so it sucks from down below. still overflows at the hole at the top tho. the other overflow is just turn upwards so it skims the surface, and draws dirt n grime from the bottom at the same time...

ps. i live in sd as well. hit me up if u wanna check it out 1 day.

Looking good. As messy pointed out...that would be a problem. Do you have check valves installed on the return line? I'm surprised you have the overflow pvc pipe so low inside the tank.

So I guess you solved your previous dilemma of the sump emptying out?

:D

prophets, your funny lol. i got the design from a local lfs. he sets the height of the overflow, then uses a T or elbow to aim a pipe where he actually wants the water to be drawn from. it still has its overflow height so if the water cuts out, it'll stop right below the elbows. but instead it draws water from below and above. same overflow point tho.

That was my 2nd guess, that you have a hole on the top end of the overflow this way the siphon will be broken. ;)

I take it, the return line also has a hole on the bottom back of the elbow to break siphoning?

Hard to tell from those pics.

One thing is for sure..that sucker is going to look kick ass when you stock it.

hole on the bottom back of the elbow? it just stops flowing regardless once the water line drops below the line of those elbows. if the water aint high enough to flow thru the holes, the water sits still. jus like any basic overflow. its just my way of going about making them cuz i hate only surface skimming overflows. poo does not float lol. you can see my custom " 4 jet" system on the left side lol. just a couple of T's pointing in different directions

Thats awesome. but if i were you id be to impatient to cycle it so id just remove the chlorine and stuff then take all the filter media out of the other tank put it in this tank with any other driftwood or plants and stuff transfer it over to the big tank then bring the fish over. Damn thats gonna be a sick tank:headbang2 :headbang2 .

im still waiting for the tank to heat up. currently at 71*. gonna check it again in the morning. hopin to throw some unimportant fish in there maybe tomorrow to help speed the cycle. im to lazy to pull media from my other filters, i dont wanna disterb the bio media on my other tanks.

I gotta check it out one of these days... What exit are you off of? Have you tried simulating a power outtage? LMK when its ready for viewing! Is there a fee? :D
