smaller rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
because stingrays are very very very susceptible, (sp) to amonia spikes... and they create ALOT of bio which means.... amonia spikes.... i suggest at least.... very least doing 25% water changes every other day and one of those should be a 50% every week and in the mean time... FIND A BIGGER TANK

why would i have to do a water change everyday?

why would i have to breath everyday? :screwy:

Rays produce waste, they need fresh water.. They are not like other fish that you can neglect and treat poorly. It will die, you will waste your money, and that is 1 less ray that could have lived, bred, and helped the hobby.

research lots and lots of research are needed before you consider buying a ray and killing it.... read the sticky that miles made in the stingray forum by the freshwater stingray book by Dr. Richard Ross and consider getting atleast a tank that is 180(6x2x2) gallons and also that tank will need to be upgraded to larger or a large pond is needed....

consider a 180(6x2x2) to be the bare minimum needed for a stingray

agreed, except I would go for a 30" depth.

don't be offended. He knows more about rays then most people, and like Miles said, you can't cut any corners in ray keeping. They need to be fed more carefully than other fish, housed carefully, kept at precise temperatures, and given perfect water parameters. It isn't an easy fish to keep compared to others, but definitely rewarding. If you do get a ray, I would suggest having nothing less than a 180g ready, since we all too often promise ourselves we will get bigger tanks but don't

please dont put one in that small of a tank, get a bigger tank before getting a retic . I wouldnt want to see one of these anmazing creatures die bec. of lack of knoledge. How would you feel beging kept in a tank way to small for you, and your water quality is bad? Think of the ray.

why would you recomend a 30" depth? rays need surface area not depth?

sorry, depth as in how deep it is from front to back. 30" deep would be pointless :)

why do u people always compare human feelings to fish feeling
im not a fish
so i wouldnt no
humans also go thru stress
so im guessing u guys give your fish the royal treatment huh?
