why would you recomend a 30" depth? rays need surface area not depth?

actually they come from deep waters but when you have a larger ray the depth makes alot of difference when they are swimming up the sides... my new tank will be 8'x3'x30" deep or 8'x4' depends on wife and budget mainly wife

You happened to ask a question that is asked numerous times on this website in one form or another. One that is really related to animal welfare and which highlights the fact that many wannabe fishkeepers prefer to delude themselves by ignoring the reality of what is required to successfully keep a particular species, in favour of what they are actually willing or able to provide. As you can imagine, after a while the more knowledgeable members of MFK are likely to get understandably annoyed by this apparent selfish lack of consideration and get tired of having to repeat the same advice over and over again. Especially when that advice seems to be repeatedly ignored judging by how many posts you will also see asking for help regarding fish that are suffering and dying needlessly at the hands of the people who are supposed to be caring for them.
Of course, that doesn't mean to say it's not important that these questions are still asked. It would just be better if more people did more research and were more willing to listen and learn and recognise good advice when they see it.

no, more bc you got an answer from people with expierence, choose to ignore it and instead try to define it as them trying to start a war with you when instead they are really just offering good advice.

No personal offense intended.

Just voicing my thoughts in general on why this particular type of question often receives a sharp response.
I suppose I quoted your post mainly because your statements :-
"a fish is going to survive
it was made on this earth to survive"
"thats the thing about monsterfishkeepers
you guys start a war over the smallest things"
seemed to display a lack of understanding.
