Smallest Tank Size For a 'Monster Fish'

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The gulper cats are very rare to find in the US market. I know of only 4 that were available in the last year and 2 of those died in shipping. Price tag on these varies between $300 and $500 per.

When you're ready to build that pond, check out aquaticeco.com first. You can get a 600gal pond with a 24"x24" lexan window for under $600. (the one in the pic has a smaller window).

.5 gallon bowl, betta fish :D

As Oddball says, rare in US, You might check with Miles (Xotic aquatics) or FuguPuff (rarefish) if really interested, they have as much likelyhood of being able to find somwe as anyone I can think of.

Do any of you know what an 'Endi' is? I saw it in one of the photo galleries. All the fish you have listed look awesome, but the high price tag leaves them out of the question for right now unfortunately. Great link on the pond! That sure would save me a lot of time and trouble. I like the viewing window, too. That was the only thing I was disappointed about building it myself. Didn't know how I was going to put one of those in.

I've got a polyepterus senegalus (sp?) right now. He's in the 40 with my cichlids giving them a run for their money! :WHOA:  I was worried about the bichir getting beat up, but now it's the other way around!

yeah 2 maybe 3 bichirs could go. Endi is a bichir "Endlicheri".

This one, or similiar species? :) Good Choice.

I would go with a pair of Figure-8 Puffers and a Butis Butis.. Maybe a couple of Knight Gobies if the F8s don't kill them. Awesome community predatory, light brackish tank.

Puffers.... Puffers.... Or an eel....

I wouldn't call myself a monsterfishkeeper (yet), As I have no tanks over 30g. That doesn't mean I don't own any oddball predators!

Dwarf Puffers
Irrubesco Puffer
South American Puffer

These puffers are hunter puffers that I keep. You can keep ambush puffers that bury themselves and are a bit more monster/aggressive in a small tank as well.

You can also keep a pair of Neolamprologus Occelatus in a 10g. These guys are insanely aggressive, attacking the owners hands during aquascaping, and in the wild are known to attack crocodiles! They're pretty spiteful, and breed really easy if you're into that kind of thing.

I also keep an african butterfly fish. I had a pair but one of them died during mating (I never even saw eggs), and these fish are true mini-monsters. I've fed mine earthworms longer than his body, and live shrimp which he has grabbed from the surface of the water. He'll also hand feed if I'm patient, just like all the puffers.

There are some other oddballs for 30g and smaller, I know of some people who keep exodons in a 30long but Im not sure if that'd work out in the long run.

You definitely aren't limited though. As I've only got the space for small tanks I keep mini-monsters myself, lots of character in every one.

This is my first advice post so steady on the flaming fellas ;)
