Snail eating cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've seen my mbuna eat them, as long as they can fit them in thier mouth, my blood parrot chows on them from time to time. Hell I have even seen my angelfish pick the small ones of the glass and eat them. If you crush them as they are climbing the glass, any fish near is likely to eat them as it drops to the substrate

The Madagascan cichlids Paretroplus maculatus amd menerambo will clear a tank infested with snails in 24 hours.
I had a tank that was so crowded with Malay snails, it was hard to see the fish, put in a menerambo, and they were literally gone in the morning.

I currently have maculatus, and feed them snails that get caught in the screens of my overflows, when dropped in, they don't make it to the bottom.

If the snail is too big to crush both species have can opener like teeth to extract the meat from the shell.

You won't find either in Petsmart or Petco. Why not buy the cichlid you like that they carry and 3 or so clown loaches?

Chilotilapia rhoadesii, a african malawi hap in the wild is known to eat snails by crushing them with their strong jaws. They can grow close to a foot though. I have one and are not overly aggressive.
