The potato works every time...although if you WANT an expert snail eater get a couple of Red Jewels....

i noticed that too. i tried to put in some pond snails to clean up a bit, and the jewels just mauled them. i was stunned. i mean, my brothers amazon puffers aren't as good at eating them as the jewels are.

and yeah, the potato idea works the best. next to jewels

i still have one in the tank, i moved the other back to the 210. the other one is too tiny and im afraid my other fish will mistake him for food. i just so happen to have a pair of red jewels in my african tank, i might give them a try along with the potato. we'll see how it goes.

by the way, jewels don't tend to do so well with rift lake cichlids (africans). they live in waters more like the amazon (ph levels). just a heads up

never get a fish to solve a problem.

get a pufferfish and u wont have to feed him. just let him eat when he wants.

I beg the differ! A puffer works wonders on a snail tank and u can just return him a month later. He WILL nip at some fish but i have only notice this onces they aren't a lot of snails around. He will S Cargo all your snails and leave the shell laying around... thats the only down fall i had, but Vac sucked them up.

introducing a new fish to an already established tank, especially one that needs special/different care and conditions than the fish already in the tank would be a bad idea.. Plus not all stores will take back fish and if they do its not for 100% refund so either way your at some loss. But its totally up to the person whos trying to solve the problem.. either do it manually or hope that another fish solves the problem and then that fish will be your problem...

To be fair i just reach into the tank and crush the snails with my hands, and this way the fish get a free protein injection.
I have a series of tetras, and now a days as soon as i put my hand in the tank they follow me around nipping at almost anything i touch.. Granted this is a longer process, but my fish looked great after my last snail boom

Yoyo loaches seem to do a pretty good job of wiping out snails. They're also fun to watch when you have them in groups!
I have never had problems with snails in my tank that had yoyos. I would purposely put pond snails in there (after being told by the petstore people that the snails would take over my tank) and would find the snail's empty shell a few days later.
That's just my opinion...

Keep in mind, no matter which method you use, your tank will STILL have snails, you just may not see them. Snail can hide in the substrate as well. Plus, the snails you have are pond snails. They will lay eggs. The newly hatched snails may not easily be seen, since they're small

Loaches and puffers will help control the population. Removing them by hand or trap is tedious, but is cheap. Avoid snail meds. They seem to do more harm to the fish than the snails.
