Snails problem - too much of them!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no go for copper, your BGK might be sensitive to it...

Yes..the main reason why im scared of using it..

Clown loach was not effective..and Endli is that big already that he would take it as a snack.. Im still keeping loach in different aquarium where she succesfully maintains the snail population..

One of the local lakes by me used copper oxide to get rid of plants. And after they did the snails were fine as I caught a bunch of them with my net. If I were you id pick up a couple loaches

You can also use a large slice of zucchini or cucumber as bait. You can use a meat skewer or a fork to spear the bait, tie a string on the end of the utensil so you can easily retrieve the snail covered bait from the aquarium.

Do you know if they are pond snails or Malaysian trumpet snails? MTS are more difficult to eradicate because they seem to multiply so quickly and their shells are so hard to break for snail eating fish.

Trumpets are almost destroyed by assassin snails.. I have Planorbis sp. infestation..uploadfromtaptalk1378363900906.jpg

Clown loach.

+1 a school of clowns. I think change in the salinity made a huge difference and is the only thing to now kill the clowns and bgk

No yoyo no clown no any other loach.. In that tank is 12" bichir who is quite hungry :) (i cant put him in 30g tank for the time loaches would be exterminating snails)

I have ordered few snail traps and will see how it will work..i just need to make population that small that assassin snails can take control of them :)

I had a 150 gal so heavily populated with MTS, that when the lights would first come on, the tank looked black.
I added Paretroplus menerambo and within 24 hours, the snail population was cut in half, with 48 hours the snail population was virtually eliminated.
In Madagascar where this fish is endemic, snails are its main source of sustenance.

Its cousin Paretroplus maculatus is also a snail eater, if a snail is to large to crush, they use their can opener like teeth to rip the meat from the shell.
