Snails problem - too much of them!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When I had snails they seemed to congregate on the front glass every evening. I added a half dozen assassins and every night I'd smash them against them the glassm after a week or two populations were low enogh for the assassins to manage.

Beautiful fish duanes :) well as im reading this one is really rare and hard to find..i'll ask around here at lfs if they can get it somehow.. Thanks! :)

I'm almost positive copper would be a big no no for scaleless fish, i.e. ghost knife...........

zucchini/cucumber chunks work great... just remove and drop snails into a copper med bath... the more often you pull and strip the veggie the faster you control the population and its unlikely you'll pull any assassins w/ it as they won't be going for the veg. You can always pick them off and toss back into tank before you copper bath the rest if they are attacking the snails there. Its more elbow grease.. but I will NEVER put copper meds in my tank again, and use a disposable cup and toss it out for the copper med baths ( you can also crush them). I've used this method a few times now when every now and then my snails get outta hand.

Im catching them on cucumber atm and quite successful..they probably had too much leftovers because previously i wasnt so lucky - fishes are on diet last 3 days and snails go on cucumber like flies on honey :)

the prob I have and u probably have is they will reproduce in the filter.

I got prefilter connector so at few canister cleaning intervals, i should slowly get rid of them..or atleast get them under control :) I was very successfull last few days :) i also noticed that BGK is cracking them at nights :)
