Snails are easily sucked by the filter intakes. Please wrap the intake with sponges!

Ah, yeah, I didn't think about mentioning that. Here, we only use one HOB filter, the rest are all sponge filters. They're less likely to break, much cheaper, easy to replace if need be, they seem to keep the water cleaner, plus, if you get a power flick while you're not at home, you don't have to worry about pumps burning out because they're not primed. Plus the (now) obvious, they don't trap/kill snails or other tiny critters.
