Snake oil foods

It's like you said in your other post. Flowerhorn keepers love gimmicks for some reason, this costly food is just another one. As a flowerhorn is basically just a large cichlid it should be cared for in the same way and you should get good results.
I think the expensive food is also part of the whole status/show off aspect of the flowerhorn scene," my fish cost me this much $ and I feed it food that costs this much $, I must be rich" even though the fish is most likely kept in a small bare tank.
Obviously some people have realised there's a chance to make some nice cash from this group of aquariusts so good luck to them, I wish I thought of it first!

I think false feeling of achievement also adds to it. No one understands osmoregulation but they want to buy "mineral salt", no one understands basics of nutrition but feed different kinds of food (there is staple and grooming types apperently). At end of the day Genetics and hormones work and owners take the credit.

That's true I think, it's similar to guys at the gym who spend hundreds of dollars on supplements, vitamins and shakes when they'd get the same result from working out regularly and eating well 90% of the time. It might be something to do with needing reassurance eg. These products are expensive so they must make a difference.

Human foods are regulated so at least food manufacturers can't make false outrageous claims. Fish foods are doing that.

Pet foods are also regulated, more than most people realize. But there is always a way to get around certain regulations, such as keeping the propaganda on the companies website, social media pages etc, but off of their labels.

What about imported once? I saw few foods not even mentioning ingredients. I think Facebook groups are doing pretty good job of scamming, many are run by people who make flowerhorn food.

I got in to argument with owner of one of the US made foods, some guy had posted a 60% protein food, and few were saying it's too high, to which he replied high protein causes hump to grow, I went against and said 60% is unnecessary, he said he never said 60% (he also makes food with 60%), I asked how much then, he replied I am fixated with protein percentage and other nutrients matter, after I insisted on what's hight protein means, he said 40%. That gave me a feeling that even he doesn't believe in it but keeps his language loose.

Same thing happened with JDL food, I posted it looks like snake oil and why it's expensive, he said because of shipping and changing hands but it's a good food. I said then nothing that customer gains, after some juvenile replies, he blocked me.

If you want to see some crazy food "discussions", just go back several years on this site. lol

It can broadly be categorized and disinformation architecture.

If myself and someone else on this forum had a financial interest in Seachem, we could go around and tell people that Seachem PhoGuard makes African cichlids more colorful. Do that on a couple of forums and Facebook, and guess what? Tons of people are suddenly buying Seachem PhoGuard.

The site hasn't been that terrible as current facebook groups. At least people were respectful. I have been threatened that companies can file lawsuit against me, lol.
