What would be a good beginner constictor? i don't really want a bp.

Colombian boa. Lots of people like the Kenyan sand boas but I haven't kept them so I can't speak in that all that much.

I might look into them

First of all, how large of a snake can you accomodate? Yeah, red-tails and burms are pretty easy but they get large. Other species are just as easy, but very snappy, and not very handleable. Is handling a factor?

Small suggestions: children's python, spotted python, sand boa, rosy boa

Big boys: red-tailed boas, dumerils boas, carpet pythons,

a snake that gets max 7 ft but not a small snake that can go in a 40 gal terrarium

get a bci (boa constrictor imperator) in other words a columbian boa. true red tails get larger, you would be lookin at about a 10-12ft snake on average. where as a bci gets about 12ft max so your lookin really at an 8ft adult snake when raised from a baby
i have a bci, they are gorgeous snakes and all round very good pet. mine is never aggressive so im confident with her around my son, the only time she gets 'agro' is at feeding time... which is a good thing! i hand feed mine with no probs

all u need is a big enough enclosure for when its a big 8ft adult, meet the temp requirements and MAKE SURE you keep the humidity high around 60-70%. thats it

True, smaller locale like a Hogg island BCI maybe. Good call on the pythons, totally forgot childrens and carpets.

the brazilian rainbow boa is an amazing snake and only gets about 6ft, BUT they arnt the best at being handled most never seem to take to it, so if you want a hands on snake then its probly not for you. brb's are really just show snakes. im gonna get one and see if i can tame it but if not i dont mind coz they look amazing
for a starter boa you really cant go wrong with a bci

I have one Kenyan sand boa. They stay very small, but very easy to handle. Giant 2' slugs when they are adults. I have a hard time getting them to eat thawed food. They like their live mice.

I have been looking at Blood Pythons. 5' to 7' in length, but are wide bodies for sure. they have a bad rap of being nippy, but as long as you handle the snake often, you should be ok.

i have a northern pine snake, they are very docile he has never bitten me and they get rather large around 5-7ft there are aggressive eaters tho =p fun 2 watch i love mine and their markings are beautiful and as far as temp 80 is ideal with little or no humidity
