I've been getting more and more interested in Snakheads as of late. I know they're illegal to get in the US. My question is, what's the best substitute for them when it comes to personality and appearence? Maybe some type of Pike?

Splenda, or wait that is a sugar subsitute....Imho there is no sub for a Red Snakey. However, Wolfish have their similarties, the only prob. with wolfies is thye rarely swim......

i agree wolves just chill on the bottom

Bowfin.

It is commonly thought to be a snakehead and therefore killed

Yup the ever cursed by fishermen Bowfin (Amia calva)2 1/2'-Anne

My wolf fish have begun to be personable around feeding time but then kinda just sit and wait till the next feeding for the most part with the occasional hovering, but as said there really is now substitute for a redline. I still miss mine....

Bowfin always break my line! F*&% Fish! Having said that they are very cool fish.

pike cichlid? Haha, no way :D

Snakeheads rip fish in half and devastate whole tanks.

Having been the owner of 3 snakeheads, wolf fish, pbass, various other cichlids, vamp tetra, freshwater cudas, tiger fish, jardinis, electric catfish etc etc...

I can honestly say nothing really compares to a snakehead and their personality.

I'm not trying to be mean, but it's true. That's why channas are my favourite fish, they are really unlike any other fish.

The same for something like arowanas and stingrays. There's really no substitute for an aro or a stingray is there? They are completely unique, so are snakeheads.

I've never kept a bowfin, but from what I've been told, they just look similar.

I would LOVE to have a snakehead, but there isn't any place that can get me a snakehead. The only fish that's "forbidden" that a lfs can get me is a Walking Catfish. So I thought I see if there's anything that can compare with it. How's a Bowfin's personality? How big? Does anyone know where I can get one?

bowfin definately

i have one and its a great fish

i am also a fisherman and would never curse a bowfin great fighters
