Sneak Peak at new natives

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The fish are amazing!!! What kind of floor are you putting in the basement? If it's concrete, this will definitely help you keep the temps down. My fish room keeps the unheated tanks down to 59 celsius. The room temp is about 62-64 without lights. With the shop lights I use keeps the room temp around 70-73.

Thanks. My mom did inform me that the second day there, that the second bigger one passed. She said it was acting strange the night i brought them home, and just kept getting worse. I guess the higher temps from the stores tank got to it too much. Oh well, such is life, Im still happy with two. They are both still kicking and eating like mad. PLus my mom got all excited when i told her to throw in worms that showed up from the storm, she was very eager and excited to do this. ( she wont admit it, but she really likes these guys )

Flooring in the basement is going to be the good ole tried and true vinyl peel-n-stick. Color and pattern dont matter here, but the tank also has somethign else going for it. Its going to be right next to an concrete wall, that all i have done is paint. So the tank will get some extra help staying cold. At my parents house the tank is in the basement, but up against a panelled stud wall, i dont remember if they insulated or not. Tentative plan for the tank at my house is next weekend. This week is going to be ass busting finishing all the little odds and ends I have from this weekends work down there. The saga continues

Yes, the saga continues and we anxiously await your continued progress. Sorry to hear about you loosing one of those fabulous natives. Hopefully the other two will do quite well for you. Best of luck to you on your endeavors with the se little guys. Thanks for sharing, I appreciate it.

Yeah, i like to do things that are "difficult" in a non-tradational way just to prove that IT CAN be done! No real update on the fish other then the driftwood in the tank is starting tsink now, and they are still eating like out of control fiends.

Last two indevers were planted tanks with no water changes, just weekly top offs. One of the tanks even had WILD discus!! *oh no!!!!!* everything was fine. the fish bred, the shrimp bred, the discus thrived. Everything hit its 4-5 year life span and went nighty night. So the trout is just the next step to me.

What's going to be the next level after the trout? WC Northern Pike, Walleye or Muskie's? :D:D:D

I dont know really. Could be anything really. One thing I've always wanted was to have rays, so I might do a ray pool next, or i could go saltwater with it. Trout have a typically short life span, only 3-5 years at best. Im hoping by the time they expire, i can put thr 75 up for sale, move to Central Florida and build a 350-500 tank and throw something really cool and gnarly in it.

Why not add a couple more since the one passed. Maybe a couple brookies. Either way the tank looks great and the pattern on the little bows is super cool. A full tank shot would be sweet.

I could go get a couple more. Going to be stuck with bows, brookies dont exsist in this state and browns get WAY to big and mean, plus they would be much harder for me to find. these fish came from a friend who runs a hatchery. I might just leave the two go, more room for them to grow. once the creeks thaw out better i plan to ad some shiners and minnows as well.

No FTS yet, you would be horribly un-impressed with it. trust me on this one.
