Snowflake is in the house!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He's a beauty!! I've had one for 6 years. He grew from around 10" to almost 20" (i haven't really pulled a tape on him). Mines in a 75 gal by himself; he outlived everything else. As he/she grows larger you will need to keep an eye on what they can reach; like the opening in the top of your tank.

Good Luck!

Hand feed him everything at the asian market. Hand feeding him will make a good bond between you and him. That way everytime you come up to the tank he will be happy to see you and swim around for you requesting food.

and possibly mistake your thumb for a krill:WHOA:

shouldn't hurt TOO much though:D

Hand feed him man. They are blind as a bat but you just have to hold the food by it's tail and keep the food in the water and the fingers out of the water. He is going to grow to 3 feet long and be pretty fat, mine is 2 feet and bigger around than a quarter. You want to get an animal like that used to having your hands in the water also.

I also respectfully disagree with TheCanuck, an eel that is going to be 3 feet long should be housed in a tank longer than it will become. They like to hide but Snowflakes especially will like to come out and prowl sometimes. I have mine in a 125 Aggressive tank and I used to have a 220 with Dragon, Golden, Green and Snowflake eels and a Juvie Brown Shark which I caught in the bay (at 6 inches) and returned to the bay when he was almost 2 feet. The Dragon used to prowl too, but not as much as the Snowflake. I hand fed everything in that tank too.

The only time an animal like that will bite you is when you drop your guard and it is best to have your hands in that tank a lot and make them used to it, they will still run away and that's exactly what you want, especially if you have kids. You want to make sure an Apex Predator always knows the difference between your hand and food.

And all you other guys that are afraid to hand feed your eels/fish. Excuse me, I'm gonna coin my favorite phrase from the movie "Zombieland"...Nut up or shut up. I have been hand feeding fish, sharks and eels for more than 20 years and for me, that's the best part of owning them.

Ok so maybe I will try to feed him that way. I also picked up a humu today :) i have a pic of it but will post it tomorrow.

yeah and i am haven a good time with it. but the wife is ready to kill me ha ha. I always want to stop at the LFS. Can i have two humu humus in my tank? or what you think would go good with the snowflake and humu humu.?

Your tank isn't big enough for 1 trigger.
