So 180 or 220g???

I'd probably go with the 180gallon...I hear what everybody is saying about more water but I think a 180 gallon would be easier to maintain...just my opinion

It probably would be marginally easier to maintain, but I don't think most people on this site care about the maintenance too much. Just ask anyone who has rays! :D Bigger is better and most people into monster fish are willing to put the extra effort into it.
 
it is easier to maintain in terms of reaching the bottom.

it is not easier to maintain in terms of water quality.

and it does not look nearly as nice. the extra height makes a big difference.

it makes the difference between "just like any other tank" and "wow that tank is really nice!"

24" tall tanks are a dime a dozen.

29-30" tall tanks are the bomb :)
